David Bowie remains on top for a third week with "Little Wonder," a song that is presently charting only in Japan, where it is number 5. The story this week is the plethora of large jumps by relatively young songs. Leading the way is "Excuse Me Mr." by No Doubt. Breaking out of the United States, it jumps 24 spots from 48 to 24. White Town leaps 34 spots from 63 to 29 with "Your Woman." A recent number one in the United Kingdom and Lebanon, it's presently in the top ten in Ireland and Iceland, and was described by a local DJ here in Milwaukee as having extremely creepy introductory music; music he wouldn't want to wake up to (Actually, the music is morbidly refreshing!). The third big mover, the biggest one on this week's chart, is Aerosmith's "Falling In Love (Is Hard On the Knees)," which vaults 56 places from 96 to 40. It's breaking out of the United States, where it's number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart, and the United Kingdom, where it debuts at number 22.

Our bottom three debuts this week are all crossing from the American R & B charts. "One in a Million" by Aaliyah (#93) is presently number four on the R & B airplay chart (it is not available as a commercial single in the USA and therefore ineligible to chart on the overall R & B chart); "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Az Yet featuring Peter Cetera (#94) is number 24 R & B and number 14 pop (though it's also number two in Singapore); and Monica's "For You I Will" (#96) is number 7 R & B, with a debut at 9 on the pop chart, giving her a perfect record: all four of her singles have made the American top ten.

Bits and Pieces: The top two on this week's British chart are at opposite ends of our chart this week. "Don't Speak" by No Doubt spends a third week on top in the United Kingdom, and slips from 2 to 3 on our chart; while the debut at number two, "Hush" by Kula Shaker, is Tip 49 on the Runners-Up chart...Those who have proclaimed the death of freestyle music receive their comeuppance this week as Jocelyn Enriquez scores what is probably the biggest global freestyle hit ever. Her recent number 49 American single, "Do You Miss Me," moves into the top ten in, of all places, Singapore, where it's number seven. It was also a recent top twenty hit in Canada...The Spice Girls take their fourth single "Mama" (Tip 5 this week) into its first top ten this week as leaps from 16 to 8 in Lebanon. Expect it to debut in the UK top ten in the next week.
